Optimization of internal linking

There are spectacular traffic tips that are reported often enough. But in addition to these traffic measures, there are also relatively many unspectacular traffic tips, but in total at least as much.

One such relatively unspectacular traffic measure is the optimization of internal linking. With this method many blogs manage to significantly increase their visitor and pageview numbers.

Therefore I give in today’s article tips for a better internal linking.

internal linking for more Page Views

One positive effect of optimized internal linking is the increase in Page Views.

Because if you link other articles in his blog, then the probability is much higher that readers read not only the current article, but more.

Some bloggers also link only to one place to other content, such as the main navigation. But that is a mistake, since not every reader is the same and takes the same paths through a blog or website. Some go through the main navigation, but many others prefer alternative ways.

Therefore, you should install in your own blog different links. For example, in addition to the main navigation, I also use the following links to other articles:

  • the most read articles
  • the most recent articles
  • Theme categories
  • similar articles under a post
  • Monthly Archives
  • a search function
  • Sneeze Pages
  • link thematically fitting old articles in new articles

You should always offer your readers alternatives so that they read more than just the current article.

But also from a search engine point of view it is important to build up a strong internal link. Because search engines send their crawlers or bots out to capture the contents of websites and blogs.

An intensive internal link ensures that the search engine crawler also finds older and not so popular content. In addition, you can push specific content with targeted manual internal linking and continue to bring it up into Google and Co.

An intensive internal link also reduces the bounce rate. This means the bounce rate after only one page. And according to rumors the bounce rate should play at least a small role in the calculation of the ranking in Google.

Manual internal linking

Sometimes it makes sense to set links manually. For example, if you want to push a specific page in Google, then you should put links to this one article from related articles. But not back and not necessarily with each other. It is important in this trick that this one article gets all the links.

By focusing on an article (with links that should contain the keyword), you will usually get this article placed on Google especially well.

I link but also much else manually. Especially if your own blog has been around for some time, you have often reported on a specific topic before and it is worthwhile to link these articles manually directly in the text of the new article.

An intensive and thematically appropriate internal linking is an important building block for more traffic.

By optimizing internal linking, you kill two birds with one stone and drive more traffic into your blog.
